The Era of Great Disruption and Possibility

Terra Soma was established to equip our clients to achieve the outcomes they want in the communities they care about. We are kind-hearted, respectful, and intelligent partners to our clients and share a deep commitment to equitable, thriving, and resilient communities. Our clients come to us for strategic plans; social change campaign design; strategic communications to advance policies that benefit the common good; research and evaluation; training and capacity building; community design and placemaking; food systems development and creative guidance that integrates across all of these functions.

We serve Indian Country, urban neighborhoods, suburban communities, small towns, and remote rural areas across North America. From Hawaii to Florida and Toronto to Texas, we help educational systems; local, state, and federal units of government; philanthropic organizations; public health partnerships; and cross sector partnerships collaborate effectively and strategically to foster healthy people and places.

With decades of experience behind us, we’ve been supporting effective change processes and strategies grounded in a longstanding commitment to equity, diversity, environmental sustainability, and a compassionate society. That’s how we roll. We always have and we always will.

But things have changed dramatically in recent months. A virtually overnight, seismic economic and social shifts have occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread calls for racial justice. On the ground, communities and organizations are working tirelessly to respond to a fast-changing, complex social and economic context. And we’re here to help.

We thought we'd take the opportunity today to share a bit about how we've been able to collaborate with our clients on timely and critical efforts to:

  • Address widespread increases in food insecurity across the United States due to COVID-19

  • Guide organizations and partners to effectively, meaningfully, and skillfully work across difference on environmental, social, food, and community planning issues

  • Equip cross-sector partnerships to substantively move the dial on diet-related health outcome through innovative strategies

  • Foster productive relationships across state and federal agencies and partner organizations to address equity, strengthen our food supply, and support farmers and other food producers

  • Facilitate partnerships and processes that lead to real, lasting change in local food supplies

  • Strategize to address challenging social inequities and opportunities and provide a clear way forward

  • Design communities to encourage love of place, different modes of transportation, and physical activity

These current efforts reveal the importance of continuing to work to build thriving, resilient communities, particularly in times of crisis and unpredictability.

We’re looking forward to sharing insights, success stories, and strategic questions on this blog. We’ll keep you posted on amazing work, important impacts, rising challenges, and interesting opportunities. And, as always, if you need our strategic support for your important work, we’re here for you. Get in touch.
